[Deerskin] Deerskin is the finest leather, often referred to as the "cashmere of leathers." Its soft, supple feel is due to the unique connective fibers of deerskin. Its soft texture is said to be closest to human skin, and the more you use it, the more comfortable it becomes in your hand. It is lighter than cowhide, resistant to water and friction, breathable, and resistant to deterioration over the years. This is evidenced by the oldest pair of tabi socks in Japan made from deerskin, still preserved in the Shosoin West Treasure House.
