Yamauchi's classic salt-shrunk cotton linen shirt with a collar.
All parts are double-layered with smooth cotton cupra lining, allowing you to feel the texture of the fabric.
All stitching is done on the reverse side.
The dry texture of the fabric, reminiscent of washi paper, and the random wrinkles give this item a Japanese feel that is typical of Yamauchi.
It has a wide range of styling options and is also useful as a jacket, so we hope you will enjoy the joy of wearing it as a piece of clothing, such as choosing the right size and collar shape.
Salt-shrunk cotton linen (Omi region)
The Omi cotton linen is so thin that it is almost transparent when you put your hand to the back of the fabric. By undergoing a strong salt shrinkage process, the fabric becomes extremely tightly woven and shrinks by approximately 30% both vertically and horizontally.
The random wrinkles that appear throughout the fabric as it shrinks and the dry surface give it a certain resemblance to washi paper.
Not all fabrics will have the same appearance after salt shrinking; the final result will depend on the thread, structure, dyeing method, and various other conditions.
As a result of repeated testing, we have arrived at this fabric, which has neither too strong nor too weak wrinkles, and which produces a consistent texture.
Yamauchi's designs begin with textiles, but textiles that are too overbearing and assertive are not good.
At first glance, it may seem like a small change, but we deliberately create our products with a sense of balance that is both elegant and comfortable, and that makes you want to pick them up and wear them again and again.
It is one of the textiles that Yamauchi cannot do without.
Salt shrinking process (Yamanashi Prefecture)
This is a processing method that uses caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) to give the fabric a unique wrinkled and uneven texture.
Because this is a very time-consuming process, it is not suitable for mass production and is done entirely by hand.
Also, because the chemicals used are dangerous, factories that can process them at high concentrations are very rare.
